What Causes a Yeast Infection?

What causes yeast infection? It is the existing fungi in your skin. The more the area gets moisturized, the more would be the fungi growth. Yeast infection is caused by a shift in the location of fungal growth. The entry point of organisms is where the skin has broken. Otherwise the skin is equipped to handle any fungal invasion.

Interestingly only adult women get yeast infection but never a child. A child may get infected with oral thrush, but it does not happen any where else. Parents would surely have heard of any such falsehoods as their child was growing up. Children unfortunately often become victims of overgrowth of Candida which need to be limited only to the mouth. For such infections to occur, a warm and moist environment is needed.

Know the causes of yeast infection:

The diapers of your toddler who is just learning toilet habits would be the ideal place for Candida to settle as it simply loves a wet and warm place. Candida thrives in wet and moist environment. So those cute folds and the areas which are normally covered by diapers are places where it grows. In terms of looks it is similar like thrush with the same white spots and smells like bead that’s baking. As a preventive step against yeast infections, keep the baby dry and clean all the time, especially during the warm and humid summer months.

Why does yeast infection affect only women? Well, because their genital area has more folds for the Candida to thrive. Since boy babies also wear diapers which trap heat, they are also prone to be affected. The same precautions are applicable for your baby girl and boy when you want to protect them from Candida overgrowth, since the conditions are same for its spread as diaper rash.

Early alarm for yeast infection:

The symptoms of yeast infection would largely vary according to the site of infection. Thick and white or thin and watery vaginal discharge along with a burning sensation can be the symptoms of a vaginal infection. What are the symptoms when the infected area is the mouth? You could see some thick white patches on top of swollen red skin in the mouth. This area though sensitive, may not itch like the usual outer skin infections. It may bleed however, if the white section is removed. Since eating and drinking becomes extremely painful, children ought to be given more water than normal.

Remain alert for early symptoms of yeast infections. It may not be fatal, but if you do not attend to it at the right time, might develop into something worse at a later stage. The above mentioned symptoms are the most frequently encountered symptoms although others do exist.
